On June 27th, the latest exhibition at the Liszt Institute in Tokyo opened in front of an audience of nearly 60 professionals. The concept of the "Rethinking Folk Costume" exhibition is to showcase Hungarian contemporary fashion designers who incorporate Hungarian folk art motifs into their modern clothing designs. Nine contemporary fashion designers have brought 17 outfits to the island nation to provide new inspiration to the Japanese market.

During the half-hour fashion show, Hungarian motifs from Kalocsa, Matyó, Sárköz embroidery, Bihar blanket-making, Halas lace, blue-dyeing, and Hungarian folklore were showcased through the 17 outfits. The presentation included explanations about the Hungarian folk art motifs, techniques, and design concepts used in the clothing. Finally, Japanese models dressed in Kalocsa and Matyó folk costumes took the stage, creating a clear connection between modern clothing and authentic folk attire for the Japanese audience to appreciate.

At the exhibition, Matyodesign's reimagined clothing also received attention. Matyodesign preserves the cultural heritage of Matyó embroidery while ensuring that their products meet the most modern expectations. They provide employment for 45 women in a small village in northeastern Hungary, creating a community where older and younger generations work together to produce timeless, unique pieces.

Matyodesign doesn't just cross national borders; it also boldly changes its conventional methods when it finds more modern and better solutions.
From now on, they're not just introducing their collection pieces on their well-known young and stylish model from Tard; they want to show that even if a woman is more mature, she doesn't have to shy away from colors and patterns. For this, they enlisted Marianne, who wore their clothes with incredible professionalism and ease, enduring the exhausting process of the photoshoot.
